Model T-Go Kart Steering Wheels – Mc Donough, Crue Cut, Mini Kars…

The Tin – Lizzie and even some for the Model A go karts came with different steering wheels.  The different sizes came as a result of product changes and buy outs. Originally when the McDonough company developed the Model-T 10 as a side business during the off season, from making lawn mowers, they released the T-10 with a smaller 8 3/4″ steering wheel.

This steering wheel was a simple flat spoked diecast design.  The wheel however could not handle the abuse of young riders and was prone to cracking, especially if a youngster hung on the wheel, or in inadvertently fell on the steering wheel.  We have however developed a stronger steering wheel that has undergusset ribbing.    We know that keeping the go kart at as original design is important especially for those enthusiast trying to restore the model T-10.  Our design has satisfied many a go kart enthusiast and has proved to be a big winner.

After the 1960’s was over however, during the turn of the 70’s Crue Cut bought out the McDonough group and resumed manufacture of the Model t-10’s.  One of the notable differences was the steering wheel being increased in diameter by 1 inch to 9 3/4″.   There are several reasons for this changes the first being the larger steering wheel seemed to work better for smaller drivers, it took less force to turn the steering wheel.  Also with the larger steering wheel it seemed to be easier to handle.  The second changed on the steering wheel was the underside gusset ribbing.  This ribbing helped increase the overall spoke strength.

Again enthusiasts seeking to keep to orginal will appreciate our replacement wheel for the 9 3/4″ as occasionally the wheels will break as well.
