The half moon gear is part of the steering system on the Model T Go Karts, made by McDonough, Crue Cut and Mini Kars. The Ackerman steering is controlled by this large plate. The idea is that the smaller gear (found here Small 9 Tooth Steering Gear Model T Go Kart McDonough, Crue Cut, Mini-Kar) has some mechanical advantage over the larger gear making it quite easy to turn the steering wheel on the karts.
This particular part that we offer is made out of high grade steel (grade 50, 52000 psi ultimate yeild). The center is made out of high grade steel as well and then firmly welded to the plate. Additionally a replaceable bronze bushing is pressed into the center, making it an extremely strong and durable replacement part for your McDonough go kart.
You will probably find that other McDonough karts have the same half moon style profile, for example Buck Boards and Model A go karts.
